Launched in 2004, Viking Sun was specifically built to accommodate discerning American travelers and to maximize the comfort of your river cruise journey along the Rhine. Featuring 99 total cabins, 89 deluxe cabins, 10 standard cabins. All spacious outside staterooms, including private bathroom with shower, in-room safe, telephone, TV, hairdryer, converter in bathroom outlet and individually controlled air conditioning. During your leisure time, enjoy the Sun Deck with breathtaking 360-degree views or relax over cocktails in the Observation Lounge. With a maximum of 198 passengers aboard and a dining room free of assigned seating, Viking Sun provides an intimate atmosphere where you can get to know your fellow passengers. Also, you only have to unpack once because your floating hotel travels with you.

The restaurant is where all meals are served during your cruise. It features panoramic windows, so you will not miss any of the scenery while you are dining. It seats 198 guests at 29 tables which vary in size, accommodating 6, 8 or 10 guests per table. The dining room is open seating, so you are free to sit where you like; a great way to make new friends. The atmosphere is casual but elegant, with high quality table linens, china, cutlery and glassware. The room has a stereo system for playing quiet music during meals.
Our chefs create a variety of tasty offerings for you, with freshly prepared seasonal local vegetables, European specialties adapted for American tastes, and homemade soups prepared daily. For breakfast, choose from our selections including eggs, cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, meats and cheeses. Or maybe you prefer a made-to-order hot dish like an omelet or pancakes. At lunch, select from the soup and sandwich bar, or a choice of entrees and dessert. Also for dinner, you are treated to a five-course gourmet menu with regional specialties. You can also select from our regional wines to perfectly complement your meal. Wherever you sail, you will find enhancements reflecting your itinerary from Dutch cheeses to French wine and quiches. It is all part of experiencing the local culture.
Fine dining consists of early bird breakfast, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Guests may choose between several courses during lunch and dinner.
On the Sun Deck you'll enjoy sunshine and fresh air while you take in 360-degree views of the scenery as you sail past castles, towns, villages, trees and vineyards. Stand at the railings or relax in a comfortable deck chair cushions are always available. Some of the seating has a canopy for those who prefer shade. There is an access way from the Sun Deck to the bridge, as well as to the library via staircase at the ship's stern.
This is the upper part of Viking Sun's Grand Atrium. It features a large, comfortable seating area with panoramic windows, so you can relax, read or watch the scenery go by. There is a 24-hour tea and coffee station with a fruit basket, and some showcases displaying items available at the onboard shop just downstairs. The middle deck lobby (reception lobby) is accessible via the grand staircase.
The Observation Lounge is a terrific place to meet old and new friends before and after meals. It boasts a large sitting area with chairs. small tables, sofas and a bar area with barstools. The Lounge has a projector and screen installed in the ceiling, so slides can be shown, and there is a stereo system and dance floor.
The Library has comfortable seating and excellent reading light. Our ships' libraries carry approximately 80 books, in various languages but mostly English, and several games such as chess, backgammon and playing cards. The Viking Sun's Library does have a bar facility that can be used by prior arrangement for private functions.
Viking Sun's Atrium/Reception Lobby is a large, airy space with a grand staircase to the upper lobby and direct access to the Restaurant. The middle deck lobby is where you enter the ship, and serves as your information center throughout your voyage. Your Cruise Manager's desk is located here, so that you can easily ask questions or discuss the day's activities. There is a public address system to announce events; there are restrooms and an onboard souvenir shop. There is also an internet station here, so you can check your email.
